 will be one of the speakers at the Orientale Lumen Conference on "The Councils of the Church" in Constantinople next July, together with Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia, Fr. Robert Taft and Sr. Vassa Larin. The conference will be opened by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and followed by a pilgrimage to Ephesus and Patmos. Register now!

Patriarch Bartholomew is expected to address the conference

The speakers will discuss the conference theme of "Church Councils of the East" from the perspective of their own tradition. Each plenary will conclude with a limited discussion period among the speakers and with questions from the audience. All of the papers presented will be published and provided to all attendees in a Proceedings book after the conference. A Liturgical book will be prepared for full participation in the liturgical services. Opening and closing remarks will be made by various Church leaders in attendance.


Conference Fees

Conference fees are payable in advance and include all meals, materials, space usage, travel expenses for the speakers, receptions, and other related conference expenses (excluding transportation for participants). Accommodations are available through the conference office for an additional cost.

Special Notes:

  • All plenary talks will be in English
  • Accommodations are available at either a 5 star Hotel (conference venue), or a 3 star hotel close by in Istanbul
  • U.S. citizens are required to obtain a visa for Turkey on arrival at Attaturk Airport (Check price on Turkish Immigration Website)
  • Clerical dress is not permitted in public areas of Turkey
  • Dress for conference sessions is business casual
  • Plenary sessions and most meals will be in the Hotel (5 star)
  • A one day excursion is planned to the Orthodox Theological Seminary on Halki
